Very good work! It is a big interesting area for cartographic studies. Have you think in include a heritage layer? It would be very interesting, I am working on this kind of analysis in Spain. I am working in cultural water heritage using early maps for their assessment and valuation

We (I mean Gábor and my colleagues) use this fine dataset for many environmental reconstructions. (Note that it has been published for the Hungarian Kingdom already in 2006, see Timár et al. 2006 Arcanum 59pp).

Of the many studies that the availability of these data made possible, we do mostly hydrological reconstructions that are evaluated e.g. in terms of tectonic motions.

Balazs, this is exactly what I was asking. I considered very important trying to develop a lot of environmental studies (environment because is my theme) using the maps as reference. We are doing something "similar" in the Madrid Region in Spain.
