In my country, Bangladesh, I expect schools to operate distance education for some more months, but finally they would want to go traditional say by the end of this year, say within December 2020.

I guess the situation will vary from country to another. It may differ from one city to another in one country according to prevalence of the virus and number of deaths.

I think traditional way will open somehow but the importance of distance learning will remain as it. We have realised that Distance learning has given worldwide opportunity to access best content online through virtual classrooms forums and discussions. So majority centre will still rely on distance learning but sooner or later conventional system of learning will be available again.

Coronavirus infection is increasing day by day in our country, so far nothing is understood. But we hope traditional education will be started soon.

Most likely we will continue using online learning in the first 6-8 months of the new academic year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been since November 2019, for about eight months. The re is no significant improvement or control of the situation except in few countries such as New Zealand, Australia, South Korea and a few others. Even in these countries, peaks can appear, and the situation is not stable. Most countries will open their borders when a vaccine or treatment becomes available (an issue important for international students). This may take 6-12 months. I think online learning will continue for another 6-8 months.

On some faculties at University of Mostar we are considering a scenario similar to traditional teaching, with many precautions and smaller groups of students...

Distance for the next school term at least. Until the vaccine is given, that works. Yesterday, June 25, 2020, saw the largest spike in new cases in the USA, 37,000 new cases in one day. The Pandemic is definitely not over.

Due to the actual situation in my country, I think that the next academic year will be mixed (blended teaching) with some face to face sessions and a lot of virtual classrooms (distance education).

Many well meaning education benefactors and commentators in South Africa have expressed that in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic online self-guided learning could solve some of the current teaching problems and address the educational backlog. What learners need, the reasoning goes, is to get free internet access to educational support materials on offer online.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

In fact, self-guided online learning is doomed to fail. Research shows an exceptionally high drop-out rate – even in developed countries. Learners simply have no incentive to keep at their studies without peer pressure, a teacher at hand or a structured learning environment.

In South Africa in particular, with socio-economic disparities and related problems, the drop-out rate would be even higher. More so in key subjects like mathematics and physical science where prior knowledge, conceptual understanding and self-motivation to succeed are critical.

The only answer, in the country’s unequal teaching environment, is a customised version of blended learning. Blended learning integrates computer-assisted online activities with traditional face-to-face teaching (chalk-and-talk).

Both traditional and distance will exist but a large percentage will be traditional as the covid-19 would have been extremely mainstream in many learning institutions

I think it will depend on what has been learnt of the online teaching and learning experience in 2020, and also on how the virus is behaving, closeness to a vaccine, etc. If the virus is still around, online teaching and learning is inevitable. In South Africa, the virus has exposed a multiplicity of issues: deep disparities between public and private basic education, in respect to access to and affordability of data, for example; teacher know how regarding online teaching; connectivity; etc. It's unlikely that traditional universities will ever resort to full online teaching, but I suspect the year-long experiment with it has exposed elements of it that work very well, that they may choose to continue using, resulting as others have suggested, with a hybrid teaching and learning model.

I do not think so. The politicians will try to push things and open schools and universities. However, we expect several waves to come and will force the closure of schools. However, I do not think there is one answer that can be applied to all countries. The economic factors, transparency, quality of care, facilities, and when a vaccine become available will affect such decisions.

If the news from Russia is true about a new vaccine in September, the situation will be change to the traditional education.
