I would say that this principle is applicable to any life form, and optimal nutrition does not just help defending against abiotic and biotic stress, but also deals with other conditions such as cancer or autoimmune diseases, DNA-repair systems etc.... I remember a long time ago I read an article on mice fed on healthy and unhealthy diets and testing dilution series of mutagens, and the healthy diet strongly changed the dose-response in favour of the health of the test animals. I wouldn't say that "a defense system is activated by good nutrition", but rather that any defense system available can be activated faster and better when the organism is healthy.

Abhishek , out basic limitation is , we usually define plant response to nutrient , simply on the basis of tissue level or whole plant level , comprehensively forgetting the nutreint reponses at cellular and subcellular level . These nutrients also act at subcellular level .The purpose was to let us know from our colleagues , how the plant -nutrient interaction takes place to cardon off the palnt defense apparatus or signaling responsible towards plant combat mechanism against diseases .

Let me toss up a very basic question ..How come such antioxidants are able to defend the health..? What is the exact mechanism involved while safeguarding the plant health, genotypically and phenotypically...?
Some of the nutrients like Fe, Zn , are so heavily associated with dismutases, forming the form of antioxidant profile to be able to scavenge the ROS accumulated in response to any abiotic stress. On the other hand , nutrients like K and Si also participate in imparting the tolerance against other kind of abiotic stress via a altogether different mechanisms. However , it remains to be seen , whether or not , response to abiotic stress involves different mechanisms..?
