E-pedagogy, or digital pedagogy, is using ICT in pedagogy (the science of transferring ethics, society norms and values to generations). How far this approach is effective ? Notably at schools? Is it beneficial or it is not comprehensive yet ?
i believe that we do not need other pedagogical theories for teaching and learning with ICTs, Information and Communication technologies. As "grand pedagogical theories" we still have as example constructivism, constructionism, behaviorism etc. Connectivism is a kind of pedagogical theory in the making and is more inspired by the possibilities with digital ICTs, but does not talk about itself as any e-pedagogy. What people mean when talking about e-learning theory or e-pedagogy and similar are smaller theories, not covering all that we expect from a pedagogical theory.
Teachers however experience a big difference, especially when abrupt shifting from classrooom teaching to online or distance teaching. They need some new strategies and patterns of work, but not necessarily a new pedagogy. However, when talking about blended, hybrid, seamless or flipped learning, new ICTs are taken into combination with some of the traditional practices. Sometimes teachers can when changing their tools also come to question how students learn - and change from constructivism to constructionism as example. But both are older than the digital "revolution".
And - what we still use of the digital ICTs ate mainly digitalisations of the old media and communication. Mail, text, film, etc - now faster, cheaper and more acessible. But what is characteristic for the digital? Reasonably the processing of information for the first time besides biological brains. We are just beginning to se such ICTs, as learning analytics and adaptive learning.
E-pedagogy is about convenience. Not everyone has access to a physical classroom so there is the need for them to access education at their convenience and have the opportunity to learn.
E-pedagogy is a reality, whether we like it or not. So, yes I believe in it. I think research has overall proved that it can be beneficial, under conditions. It is necessary to know when, how, where to implement it. Planning and evaluation is important too.
I totally believe. Several studies point out that if properly implemented, E-pedagogy works as an important tool to improve students' and teachers' critical thinking.
Sure! Today, we are faced with teaching Mellineals, digital natives, who prefer to learn through technology. Traditional face to face learning and teaching is not interesting to them. Therefore, learning and teaching with technology is gaining more in more support in 21st century education.
To my opinion, it is impossible to meet the students needs precisely without physical presence. But e-learning (describes better what I tend to feel it could be) is a strong way to support learning (blended learning), and to offer subjects to people with special interests and no ability to study in physical presence. So I really appreciate and use e-learning for my students, but pedagogy to me means more than getting up with a new subject. Education is a interdependent process between teacher and learner. In German we have the wonderful word "Bildung" ("Picturing") we use instead of education. To my opinion we will see a strong development with in e-learning in the next years. Platforms like edx, google classroom or Moodle are quite common in higher educational context.
Definitely. I fully agree that the concept of a “course” as currently understood is likely to be inadequate. Research that we have undertaken suggests, first, that students would prefer a modular approach that permits the widest range of choices. Second, the timescales involved in e-learning (at least distance e-learning) mean that the time frames within which we work on campus do not necessarily impose the same constraints: a term becomes a potentially meaningless concept in cyberspace.
e-learning is beginning strongly. I think you have to review the existing literature and observe the results in the graduates of the programs under this modality. At the same time, pedagogy will take an important turn in these times.
Is it about believing in its existence, or in its efficacy/inefficiencies?
If it is about its existence, I believe in it.
If it is about its efficacy and/or inefficiencies then partially YES.
Every contingent reality or activity that is efficient has inefficiencies(principle of imperfect-ability) and every contingent reality/action that is inefficient has efficiencies.
For instance E-learning might be time saving but it falls short of dialogical formation.
1) it is approaches to teaching that utilize the affordances of digital information and communication technologies and cater for the learning preferences of the digital generation .
2) it is the study of teaching via the Internet, or the study of online instruction .
3) it is a specifically designed set of principles and practices that focus on how to delivery content to those using technology in their learning.
4) it is teaching and learning strategic developed specifically for online and/or blended environments.
Because e-learning has already become part of the educational process in many schools, universities and companies, e-learning and e-pedagogy are becoming a fact. The main factors that determine the development of e-pedagogy, as well as e-learning, e-education is the development of information technology ICT, Internet, Internet of Things and advanced information processing and other technologies present the fourth technological revolution Industry 4.0. In addition, the development of new online media, including, above all, social media portals. Because on most social media portals the most active users of these portals are young people, therefore, these portals and other tools of new online media are increasingly used in the processes of disseminating knowledge, education and become instruments of e-learning, e-education and e-learning and e-pedagogy.
Unequivocally yes. According to my own experience, the benefits of integrating technology into pedagogical environment may include motivate students effectively, enhance interactions between learners and educators, allow students to autonomously resolve problems.
I think pedagogy is the art of human approach, the art that has been designed by conditions. So e-pedagogy is not just about following a new era. but most important is how you design a good situation that can make you comfortable in the approach process
