At the beginnings of agricultural societies a Great Goddess took centre stage (visible at Catalhoyuk), continued in evidence in the Sumerian goddess Inanna (who may have predated the Sumerian god An), with occasional glimpses of queens ruling ancient societies.

The rise of patriarchal societies came when people(s) urbanised, institutions and organisations appeared, and assemblies of elders (men), High Priests (mainly men) and kings ruled. Strident forms of masculinity based upon a focus on warfare, became the preferred human type.

The effect of women on early Christianity has been ignored (women allowed the cult to survive and prosper and probably funded Jesus), their development of ideas (evident once they had the chance) suppressed, and intelligence belittled.
