New Englishes . pidgin and creole!

Fluent use of English (or any language) requires idiomatic language use. The best way to understand idioms is to know the cultural meaning behind them.

In addition, teaching about popular culture can be motivating for students, in some cases. So I think that appropriate amounts of culture, focused to the learning goals, is appropriate.
