I am using different university departments in an efficiency analysis using DEA. syllabuses and evaluation procedure are different in different units. do I need to standardize the tests scores separately for each department.
Generally, DEA is unit invariant meaning you can have 1 variable being in numbers, another variable being in currency etc for all departments. However, you cannot have the same variable measured in different units for different departments.
I think what you are trying to do even after standardizing the information also difficult since u do not know the depth of sectioned covered and variance in teaching and assessing etc, Therefore, my suggestion is to draw different frontier lines for each university based on the way u calculate efficiency and then compare each other in different apspects u are interested.
But Asela, If he uses different frontiers for the various groups he cannot compare the efficiency scores since the assumption of technological heterogeneity is then automatically assumed. The best he can do when different frontiers are used is by conducting a Metafrontier or Global frontier analysis
