Andreas Avgousti poses the question: "[d]o today's crises expose the shortcomings of the normative ideal of democracy?"
(For more, see: https://theloop.ecpr.eu/a-democratic-database-and-the-reimagining-of-democracy/)
My impression of Avgousti's answer to this question is as follows:
(a) There is no, one, singular normative ideal of democracy just as there is no, one, singular definition of democracy;
(b) This pluralism is a good thing;
because
(c) Democracy's normative & descriptive pluralism gives us the option to use different imperatives and concepts to address the problems facing us.
In short, the answer is yes, today's crises do expose shortcomings of various democracy's norms but they are corrigible.
What do you think?
