There is a presumption that housing for homeless single people has to be costly. Yet many cities have large unused warehouses that could easily be divided up into no frills cubicles or "monks' cells" (large enough for a bed, dresser, table, and chair), with communal washrooms, communal kitchen, and some common rooms. Many homeless shelters are already like that, but on too small a scale. A modern-day Howard Roark* could solve this problem, provided he eschewed Ayn Rand's uncompromising brand of capitalism.
