Provided that concrete pores of the concrete are not connected (to avoid moisture movement) and concrete is not exposed to high temperatures, the "constructed" structural integrity of the bamboo will be maintained.

Although I did not do research on this area however I have gone through some others people work on this topic.

I my opinion it will good for light structures in tropical regions. It might be good environmental friendly material.

I can anticipate a service life between 20 to 30 years. However it can be extended if bamboo fibers are processed against degradation.

In civil engineering, people are using bamboo in place of steel for reinforcement. Bamboo is an excellent choice for reinforcement in concrete because of its higher strength as compare to steel by weight. Tensile strength bamboo's is about 28000 pounds per square inch versus steel's 23000 pounds per square inch. Bamboo is stronger more than 6 times steel reinforcement, in comparison of the energy needed to produce steel is almost 50 times that of Bamboo. Apart from this, Bamboo has an impermeable protective layer on the outer side which protects it from rotting due to water which a major problem for almost all organic materials.

Depends on what dimensional level the bamboo is employed - if at the micro structural level (say as a composite of shredded bamboo fibres and cement) then mechanical properties will largely depend on the level of bonding snd interaction between the fibres and the matrix, so long term behaviour will depend on the intergrity of this bond and significantly on any interaction between the alkalinity of the cement and the cellulose and lignin in the bamboo. You sometimes see the use of organic “tempers” in lime cement and gypsum plaster, for example, with no untoward effects over decades or centuries, so bamboo could well be ok. We’ve been looking at it (as well as crumb rubber) as a means of reducing aggregate load, and it seems promising. In terms of replacing steel rebar at the macro level - the efficacy of the reinforcement at this level will depend on loading scenario, and on how this load is transferred into the bamboo framework - so bamboo to bamboo joints are important here. Look at steel rebar for inspiration - how are sections joined (welding used in many cases), what is the structural significance of a join, how can the integrity of joints be affected by the alkaline environment over a prolonged period, and is mechanical load transfer being employed. For example, steel rebar is hot twisted to alter surface topography and force mechanical interlocking - the periodic rings on bamboo would have much the same role, but are much less uniform and predictable in number. At this macro level, one feels the end product’s mechanical properties will be far less certain than for steel rebar with the added uncertainty from long term effects (on wound joints for example). It is also possible that (like for steel) transport of water over time into the bamboo will cause expansion and swelling of the wood, and hence cracking of the surrounding cement (such as was seen in the bridge collapse in Genoa). Only long term testing in waterlogged contexts will tell. Look out for a paper on bamboo fibre reinforcement however!
