The striped cucumber beetle, Acalymma vittatum, eats only cucurbits (i.e., cucumber, melon, squash, and zucchini). It is said to be the main predator of Echinocystis lobata, commonly known as the wild cucumber, in North America. It also serves as a transmitter of cucumber-wilt bacteria. Another example of a herbivore that acts as a predator of Echinocystis lobata is the horn squashed bug, Anasa armigera.
