This Bosmina was found in Arenal Reservoir, Costa Rica. It is apparentl infected by a fungi, and we are interested to know if there is any experience about this condition, and if ti means something about the environmental condition of the lake.
Dear Chantal. Thanks for your inquire. The samples were preserved with enoguh formaldehide (4% final concentration) just after collection in the boat, and latter transfered to 70% etanol in the lab. They were examined a few weeks after withdrawl.
We examined back quickly a few samples from previous dates, and there were few Bosminas with the infection, but in the last sampling the infection was much spread and Bosmina densities were quite lower than previously (we havent performed statistics yet). That's why it surprised us and moved us to ask...
Thankyou Elena. That gives us a hint. The thing is to know if that fact reflects some condition of the lake. And yes, we will do some genetical analysis.
