1. Assume a construct of a conceptual framework, is having four variables called, A,B,C and D. Does the relationship between all these 4 variables and the dependent variable should be supported by the theory and the empirically? or is it sufficient to have either one of them?
2. In a conceptual framework, can one independent variable be the moderator of the same framework?
The question as posed is somewhat ambiguous, with many answers plausible. Two answers could include::
1. Perhaps the four measures A-D are strongly correlated with each other and should be treated as a composite scale. If so, then the scale should be created, and the relationship between the scale score and the outcome measure constitutes the test of the theory.
2. If the items are treated separately, then the degree to which the items influence the dependent variable in the manner hypothesized by the theory gives evidence of the support, or lack thereof, for the theory. Obviously if none of the variables have an impact on the dependent variable then there is no support. If one variable impacts but three do not then there is only weak support, etc. This is a question of degree as opposed to a binary outcome.
