remove methyl group by remove both nucleotide and -CH3 ,it mean that remove nucleotide which had methylation, new nucleotide is replaced.my teacher taught
Different putative demethylases were hypothesized, either acting by excision repair mechanisms or direct CH3 removal. My vote is for MBD2. For a review of these mechanisms, look at the two papers suggested above, at the papers by Moshe Szyf and colleagues and at the paper by my group in Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry : Fuso A, Nicolia V, Cavallaro RA, Scarpa S. DNA methylase and demethylase activities are modulated by one-carbon metabolism in Alzheimer's disease models.
