Your question itself contains an unusual and interesting point of view on the reason of the diurnal variation of the EV bleeding which may worth some investigations to perform.

However, the portal venous pressure elevation at night are thought to be the main reason for that ('Night is the kingdom of the Vagus'). On the other hand, to the best of my knowledge, there have not been series devoted to the diurnal variations of the portal pressure in human.
