Best check with your local biosafety officer. Based on the data I've seen, I see no reason why EtBr shouldn't be discarded directly down the drain, but you still have to follow local regulations.

There are mainly three ways of Chemical Neutralization:

1) Armour Method

2) Lunn and Sansone Method

3) Quillardet and Hoffnung Method

There is no proper disposal procedure, if any of the scientist have any method of Etbr disposal then please share with me as I have stored the gel from the last three years.

All certificated labs have ordinary system to discard biologically hazard materials in special containers..
