Transactive energy management with a focus on electricity from a microgrid is still uncommon. Maybe it will gather momentum in the future, because experience from the biogas ventures have been quite good.

My university has an energy-saving project for the smart house power grid with separated lines for standby devices. ACS712TELC-30A module current sensor is in use for the load control.

I gonna publish a paper about this work. Draft title is "An Energy-Saving Concept of the Smart House Power Grid with Separated Lines for Standby Devices". Draft abstract is as follows: "Standby power takes 5-10 % of residential electricity around the world. Some countries lose greater than 14 % of total electricity used at residential sector. Hence, new energy-saving concept is discussed in this paper to decrease the power loses. Firstly, the two-power lines infrastructure, for continuously connected equipment and for standby devices, is proposed for new smart houses. Secondly, the segmented infrastructure with unified hardware units is proposed for existing smart houses (the new one can apply this principle as well). The contactors (i.e. unified hardware units) consist of the NodeMcu Lua ESP8266 ESP-12 WiFi IoT development board and the Songle relay, which is the budget solution of price USD 5. The payback period is one month and half for the whole-house switch approach. The software consists of two parts, low-level Arduino sketches and high-level C# Windows form app. They are connected by MQTT broker Mosquitto. The automatic mode is based on the analysis of the states of all descendant relays: if all descendant relays (i.e. contactors) are switched off, the ancestor relay is switched off as well. The proposed concept was tested successfully using developed prototype with three segments, one of which includes smart lighting."

Conference Paper An electricity trade model for microgrid communities in smart grid

We are investigating the benefits of using transactive energy trading in autonomous microgrid control applications for smart villages, especially in isolated rural energy and rural electrification applications. We find the shared community participation customer engagement aspect attractive, especially since it allows off-grid households and homeowners to limit energy consumption and demand response to pre-defined or pre-paid billing budget constraints (ie basic free electricity). Free basic electricity is a low income residential social energy tariff structure. Our focus is on transactional systems as enabler and driver for participative smartgrid control. Transactive energy management will help overcome barriers of entry in smart solar microgrids and community shared solar cogeneration systems for isolated rural villages. By experimenting in advanced simulation mode, the software operates as if it is controlling the sources and loads in the village microgrid, although is actually communicating with and controlling the virtualized parametric model components of the assets in the microgrid. Such transactive energy simulations allow design engineers to investigate the benefits of this operational control scheme.

Yes Suman, within certain flexibility requirements, variable renewable energy can act as Socio-Economic catalyst. This is the reason for our interest in factors and open-source software that can support transactive energy techniques. Our interest is in cooperative transactive control attractive in isolated smartgrid energy management, local community energy markets and retail microgrid energy trading. In this new type of local energy market, operated by consumers, we can adapt and adjust the way we generate and consume electricity as it enables households or villages to buy and sell renewable energy to their neighbours. It also offers demand response in deregulated markets for solar microgrids based on transactive energy exchange or transactive automated power exchange principles on OpenADR platforms or in using protocols such as the Transactive Energy Information Exchange (TeMIX) protocol.

Solid analysis- and why I have been exploring the Tangle-based cryptocurrency IOTA as a permissionless distributed ledger that works with very small devices and no cloud connection.

The option for transactive machinery to work in conditions where there is no cloud connection would be a very valuable feature. It supports the feature of transactive energy solutions to provide user participation in real-time supervisory level type control for sets of power system assets. This on a single hardware and software platform will help to minimize the customer's cost of energy within certain budget control constraints. It will also help to maximize the utilization of availability of renewable energy in the microgrid energy matrix and to minimize consumption of fossil fuels in the overall energy lattice network.

I am working on combined watergy markets,, i.e. parallel transactive markets in Power and Water (with the cross-over AWG devices (atomospheric water generation), with potential additions of hydroponics / modular drip irrigation to the mix. Tranasctional biogas, like transactional thermal markets, would be a big plus...

There must be some literature available, though I can't cite any off-the-cuff ! (Frankly, I was not quite looking around for stuff in this area, so this is more due to my lack of awareness and nothing else !!)
