As i search for the fracture analysis of middle cracked tension (MT) specimen and found that the there are so many ASTM standards i.e. ASTM E647 and E564 are available for middle cracked tension specimen (for same fracture parameters analysis).
Can anyone tell me which one is better as they do not differ much?
and my second question is-
Is the fracture analysis of MT specimen provide us the Stress intensity factor or the critical value of stress intensity factor (fracture toughness)?

First of all E647 standard is for the fatigue crack growth tests under cyclic loading. In fatigue crack growth tests, the initial preexisting crack grows to a critical crack size (corresponds to critical SIF) and then it fails abruptly. Use this standard if you are looking for the fatigue crack growth tests (not for the fracture toughness tests). In experimental studies one can obtain the stress intensity factors from the software module. Manually also you can calculate the SIFs for each crack length using ASTM recommended formula (say equation A 2.4, E647).
E564 standard is meant for the shear resistance under static loading.
If you are looking for the fracture toughness test standards refer E399 and E1820. In fracture toughness tests, the specimen fails abruptly (without any crack growth) under increasing load and the SIF corresponding to the failure load is considered as the critical SIF (fracture toughness).

I think E561-15 a can work for Fracture toughness measurement using middle cracked tension specimen, any thoughts?
