I am looking for a procedure of determining nitrates and phosphates in water samples using UV-Vis.
Shadrack, What order of accuracy are you looking for? ppm? ppb? Is cost a determining factor? Most of the Companies operating in this field utilise colour ie -vis- reactions where the intensity of the colour is measured against a series of colour wheels or charts. The cheapest versions are the test kits put out by the fresh water fish tank Aquarium people. The next level up uses the same colour reactions but are measured by hand held digital electronic instruments. Come back to me if this is the sortof answer you are looking for. Ken C. I have a HACH UV-Vis spec and wanted to know which procedure I can use to determine the levels of nitrates in water. Ken, do have any procedure?
Nitrate in water can be measured by Ultrviolet Spectrophotometric Screening Method, Standard Methods for Examination of Water and Waste Water pp 4.7-8 by APHA,AWWA WEF.
