I am preparing a review on the subject of Design of Experiment.
The standard literature [1,2] describes the One factor at Time methods and the factorial experiments without any mathematical proof of them.
I understand the reason of these methods but I would like a citation to refer to the mathematical proof.
Any help will be highly appreciated

The best book about this task is "Design of experiments" from Montgomery.

in this case you can used any one methods :
1- Multivariate analysis with factors (p=time) MANOVA with test wilks, Hottelling in this method any reference of Applied Multivariate analysis is very good
2- You can use split plot design in time in this case book from answer Daniel is very very good (Design of experiments" from Montgomery.)

While waiting for a paper copy of "Design of experiments" from Montgomery. I reviewed the online version(boos.google.com).
I could not locate the mathematical proof of the importance of Interaction. I undersatnd it but it is missing a paper that proof it.
