My usual approach in qualitative interviewing is use of open-ended questions, very few open-ended questions. I now come upon a situation where I again want answers to a few open-ended questions, but also to a number of highly structured questions - essentially as you would normally associate with questionnaire-based quantitative analysis. The answer becomes simple and accords with a relatively small cohort of participants - about 8 in each of 3 locations. No way enough for accurate quantitative analysis to include inferential stats. However, inferential stats aren't needed on this occasion, so all looks fine to proceed with qualitative interviews (open-ended questions) and questionnaires (numerous closed questions). Sorted, except that I don't feel comfortable with academe's acceptance of the mix. Any thoughts?
