Dear All,

if I understand correctly, when conducting a health risk assessment in order to calculate the number of cases of a certain incidence (e.g. ichaemic heart disease) due to changes in air pollution concentration, the relative risk (RR) has usually been derived from concentration-response functions (CRFs) in epidemiological cohort studies. Thereby the ß-coefficient was obtained wich then again can be used to estimate the number of cases.

In the literature the impact function itself is often referred to as "calculation-response function". I thought the CRFs are used to calculate the RR?

So my questions basically are:

How can "concentration-response function" be defined? Which are the derived parameters; RR, ß-coefficient oder number of cases?

Furthemore, does "exposure-response function" simply imply that the exposed population is already integrated within the CRF?

I hope my questions make sense. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Kind regards,

Christiane Gackenholz
