I am planning a presentation about research novelty for MS students in the health/medical/biological fields in my home country. My emphasis will be on differentiating between adding knowledge and presenting local information. An example is presenting new findings on the relationship between clinical and/or laboratory characteristics of a particular patient group versus presenting clinical and/or laboratory data of such a group in a limited hospital setting. I can assess on my own whether a study is of the first or second type, but that would be like presenting my own point of view. I would grateful if someone can point me to resources that discuss examples of novelty and its lack rather than only the general definition of novelty. Input based on personal experience would also be valuable.
