For time series and panel data, both Eviews and Stata are good choices. Other statistical packages you can consider are R and MATLAB.

EViews is easier and well documented. Stata is the most popular and extremely well documented.

Both are very good choices and have active user bases. I use EViews and Oxmetrics the most but my friends recommend Stata the most to me. I lean heavily toward time series. It really depends most on your interest and willingness to learn programming, if you want to do things off the menu.
