It depends on the depth and quality of the research work. There are some papers I don't need to waste time waiting for high impact journals to accept, I just push them to low impact publishers. Sometimes, number matters too!
Even sometimes you have to wait long time to publish your article in high impact journals, but it is too much better than publishing your work in predatory journals. Regards
Yea, the annoying thing is waiting forever and at the end of the year you have nothing to show for your research. I rather have 5 or more articles published in low impact than none in high impact in a whole year.
Always better to publish in high impacted journals. However it depends on the quality of work and need of the paper. Better to publish your work ahe sharing it in low impact journals than without publishing any in the wait for impacted journals only.
What are the criteria of publishing in high impacted journals? To publish in high impact journals means meticulous research with lots of efforts. Means, we need infrastructure and well equipped laboratories to do analysis. Here in Manipur (and most of Indian institutes), there is no infrastructure and opportunity to explore our true potential is restricted. Even if we want, we have to abandon high proliferate research work. Then, do we have to stop publishing the papers? No, we choose for low impacted journals with potential to grow in coming years. When opportunity comes, then we can grab for high journals. We have to manage with what we have, but also at the same time we must not forget to aim higher.
There is no hard and fast rule. If you have some information that you want to publish quickly and a low impact journal would do that go for it. As a retired professional I don't care much about my CV.
I surely prefer my research paper or article to publish in high impact factor standard peer reviewed journal. In this context, I would wait for a longer time also and if published, I will have a pride in getting done. I would like to mention here that standard and also peer reiewed journals as per my understanding are Elsevier, Springer, Taylor and Francis, ASME, Begell house etc. I would also prefer my paper published in a journal to be indexed by science citation index, web of science, scopus index etc. In this, I would go for high impact factor journal depending on my area of research and if not go for a low impact factor journal.. Some of the journals does'nt have peer review, paid, not properly indexed, does not have ISSN number but still have high impact factors, the publication in these journals should not be encouraged.
Mostly, one likes to finish the task by publishing the work. Usually, I do like to go further into a new task without delay. Hence, I'm happy to go for low impact journals!!! By this I may avoid extra stress !!!
