Fish release weights seem to be pretty efficient indeed, based on work in progress in Corsica (France). There is not much scientific literature about it, but the principle is simple and intuitive as you might see in this video example (in addition to Tiffany's answer):

You might want to contact Eric Durieux if you need further info, he is the PI of the project in Corsica : https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Eric_Durieux
How are you? I am sending this information based on the capture of European hake. I do not know if it will be viable for your target species but it can help.
You can see in the link the method of capture and acclimatization for the European hake broodstock (Iglesias et al. 2010) carried out for the staff of the Centro Oceanográfico of Vigo (COV-IEO) based on the previous project (Culmer (COV-IEO)) of European hake capture and tagging. Similar to de Pontual et al 2003.
A good solution was obtained by puncturing the swimming bladder. You can see the technique in the video at 2 min 45 sec.

Important parameters that improve survival as the seawater temperature should be taken into account, but if you have any questions, I will be happy to answer it.
Best wishes,

Article Capture, transport and acclimatization to captivity of Europ...
thank you very much for you help. I think we wouldl try different approaches. as I believe nobody before tried to tag fish hauled from 200-300 meters (bluenose). Hopefully one of them will help.
