hi, i am doing electrocoagulation process for oily wastewater of (400 ppm of TDS) i want to have a C.D of 20 mA/cm2 and that equal to 2.7 Amp. the problem is my DC power supply don't give Amp higher than 1.8 Amp for 400 TDS and the (C.V thing in the DC power keep lighting at that Amp ). so how i can get Amp of 2.2 or higher for 400 ppm TDS of Wastewater WITHOUT increasing TDS by adding NaCl.

In practice, direct current (DC) is used in an electrocoagulation processes. In this case, an impermeable oxide layer may form on the cathode as well as corrosion formation on the anode due to oxidation. This prevents the effective current transfer between the anode and cathode, so the efficiency of electrocoagulation processes declines. These disadvantages of DC have been diminished by adopting alternating current (AC) in electrocoagulation processes. the effects of AC and DC on the removal of iron from water using zinc as anode and cathode. The results showed that the optimum removal efficiency of 99.6% and 99.1% with the energy consumption of 0.625 and 0.991 kWh kL−1 was achieved at a current density of 0.06 A dm−2, at pH of 7.0 using AC and DC, respectively. For both AC and DC, the adsorption of iron was preferably fitting Langmuir adsorption isotherm, the adsorption process follows second order kinetics and the temperature studies showed that adsorption was exothermic and spontaneous in nature. © 2011 Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering.DC-DC current Buck-Boost converter using duality approach is articulated with its DC transformer modeling. Buck-Boost converter plays a dominant part of switch mode power supply (SMPS) and drives applications for voltage and current control. Advantage of employing Buck-Boost converter is that it provides voltage less as well as greater than input voltage. Proposed converter which is dual of conventional Buck-Boost converter provides flexible current control for SMPS as well as drives applications. The procedure of formation of dual network of conventional Buck-Boost converter (Current Buck-Boost Converter) is also discussed with mathematical equation. The proposed converter is simulated using software MATLAB/SIMULINK and results prove viability of proposed circuit and duality approach.

Simple alternate is, you can alter your polarity with particular period. For example, you can reverse your polarity for 2 min every 30 min of electrlysis. so all the deposits in the cathode will be removed. so you can get good efficiency.
Is AC-powered electrocoagulation used in large-scale applications?

I agree with Dr. Subramanyan, i) reversing polarity can give appropriate solution and ii) by keeping inter electrode distance minimum.
