Dear colleagues,
Which is better - to sow a former A. tumefaciens infested land with corn/wheat or to leave it without any crops for a couple of years (2-3)? My colleagues are more inclined to leave it crop-free, than use corn or any cereal, because they do not find it profitable in any way.
Do the cereal cultures additionally participate in an allelepathy to prevent A. tumefaciens from developing, or they are just plain unsusceptible to it (which is known, of course)? Is it possible for the A. tumefaciens to simply "die" without a host, for a couple of years, in the conditions of a highly alkaline soil, with lots of clay, with scarce surface irrigation, but with lots of undrground waters, and detention of humidity?
Thank you in advance!
