Hello everyone! I’ve got SEG-Y data in a coordinate system that isn’t defined in PETREL but exists in other software. Therefore, I need to know how I can add this system in this software.
Dear Carolina, I send to you a Tutorial with three basic steps to load SEGY data in Petrel. Otherwise, I suggest you try the coordinate system conversion before loading, e.g., Geosoft Oasis Montaj. Let me know if you need another help. Best wishes, Mario E. Sigismondi
You can filter by catalog. Apart from the ''Enterprise & Extension Catalog'' there are other catalog like (Enterprise Catalog, Factory Catalog, etc) you might want to explore for your CRS. Simply use the dropdown.
If you know the longitude and latitude, you can also toggle on '' Point inside area of use'' , click on the location/position on the map above or you imput it manually on the longitude and latitude column. You then click on ''Filter'' on the Reference position.
I don't know which version of Petrel you are using, but my last frustrating experience was with Petrel 2015. My research area is the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, so all of my well data comes with coordinates in decimal latitude and decimal longitude, which IHS Kingdom easily accepts. Not so with Petrel. My seismic data was in a fairly standard coordinate system, also easily loaded into Kingdom, but not among the Petrel options. After several days of experimentation, I finally found an equivalent coordinate system in Petrel and loaded the seismic data. I recommend this tedious method in preference to coordinate conversion...that is always risky with 3D data in terms of accurate 3D registration. My reason for wanting to load my project into Petrel was to compare results between two different software applications in order to determine artifacts introduced by the software itself. I was building a 3D velocity model where such details become important. Good luck with your project.
Please how can I get the software? I am having similar problem with version 2017. I have seismic and well data from Taranaki basin, North Island New Zealand but they are displaying in South Island.
Olatunbosun Kafisanwo . Could you quickly show me how to a create a new projection in The Coordinates System Manager and add it into Petrel CRS. Thank you!
First, earch for "COORDINATE SYSTEM MANAGER" on your desktop (it seldomly installed together with your Petrel E&P Software.)
Navigate to "GEODETIC CATALOGUE", click on it. Then click on "CREATE NEW CONFILATION POLICY".
Then go ahead to search for your project location area ( there are lot more locations than you have on your CRS). You can decide to rename it so you can recognize it on your CRS settings.
After doing all this, then you can go ahead to choose the new one on the Project setting> CRS.
