Although the COVID-19 has come to us at a time when we were grossly unprepared, it will not leave us without lessons. One of these upon which I feel sustainability researchers should begin to consider, is the impact of the lockdown across the globe on sustainability lifestyles of individuals. There is evidence that a reasonable percentage of work can now be achieved online and from home; meaning less travel and less anthropogenic forcing; good news for environmental sustainability. I believe this has implications for our lifestyles post COVID-19. Social sustainability may also be boosting as people now have to stay more at home and spend time with loved ones. Probably, economic sustainability may be declining, but I believe there could always be ways around it. So, before the COVID-19 is over and there is the usual rush and hustle to get back to normalcy, this may be a good time to research the impacts of the lockdown and it’s implications for sustainability. Are there good lessons to learn? Are there lifestyles we’ve adopted now which are beneficial to our specie as humans and which are instrumental to preserving the earth? Is it worthy researching these, and do we carry them over into the post COVID-19 era? These are my lines of thought and I believe they may form new directions for research.
