The triage system that I have felt has the highest correlation to the disposition of the patient while maintaining the high interrater reliability is the ESI (Emergency Severity Index).  You can see a number of references to this by using the Google search engine.  The following links may be of help....

Triaging patients regardless of the place shall follow the ABCDE 

A= airway

B= Breathing 

C = Circulation

D = Disability (Neuro + GCS)

E = Exposure ...looking for other things including prevention from hypothermia

The first three are the fastest killers !!

I believe it is a simple way of quick patients' scanning for a serious ailments

We tried to keep it simple and follow the above

I recommend that you search on Google using a search term as 'triage and acuity scale'. This scale use to determine the patient's care priority.

Article Emergency Department triage Why and How?

In my experience, the simpler is the better in case of mass casualty.

In my team, we use the ABC score, which take into account:

• Penetrating mechanism (0 no, 1 yes)
• SBP of 90mmHg or less(0 no,1 yes)
• HR of 120 bpm or greater(0 no,1 yes)
• Positive FAST (0 no, 1 yes)

A score of 2 or more indicates a high risk of blood need and in our experience is well correlated to need of urgent surgery/damage control.

Manchester triage has been blamed for problems which are actually organisational capacity problems but it actually works very well when you follow it properly. It was replaced by streaming in many places which have had little or no effect and cost more to use.
