Using dual or triple polarized antenna arrays has some advantage in LOS communications in conventional MIMO. I was wondering if polarized antennas could be used with massive MIMO and we could get some advantages from this?
Sure. Massive MIMO can essentially be deployed with any type of antenna configuration. Distributed or colocated. Vertical, horizontal, or two/three dimensional arrays. Single or multiple polarizations. If you like to achieve near-independent fading over the arrays, I believe that polarization is a good way to reduce the array dimensions.
Yes. we can benefit from multi-polarized antennas in massive MIMO. In this case, what will be the performance parameters to do the trade-off with?
Today I discussed, with my UG students, this issue of multi-polarized antennas in lower order MIMO and massive MIMO. As a matter of fluke I just stumbled upon this question...
