ResearchGate demonstrates unique possibilities for scientific exchange and estimation of scientific contribution. The number of impact points reflects some averages scientists’ contribution to articles publication in journals that characterized by different ranges. However, the impact points absolutely do not reflect scientific book publication. At the same time, scientific books are usually the result of years of comprehensive investigation. Sometimes scientific books could be integrally estimated as 10-20 articles. I suggest to introduce (at least for International Publishers) an average number of impact points for each scientific book.
I think this brings up a very important point. In some academic fields, books are considered more important than journal articles. Many book publishers such as IGI Global are widely used academic resources. It would be helpful to all of us to have these included in the RG Scores and to help us determine what book publishing outlets to use for our projects.
