We are going to run an Integrated Population model for an avian species.

For the demographic parameters part, ringing and reencounters data are available, thus survival of young and adult will be easily estimable. However, in such models, overall estimation can be improved by including data on productivity.

In our species, none or few information about productivity is available. We were thinking of using contingence data from age of nestling at ringing (range 1-40 days) to get some information about survival (distribution of number of nestling ringed each days may depend on chick survival and detection). Usually, chick/nestling survival is based on several reencounters (visits to the nest, resighting, etc.). Is someone aware of some papers suggesting it could be possible to estimate an index of chick survival (before fledging) based on number of nestlings ringed by age-class?
