An interesting topic to add would be operations management focused on humanitarian relief or operations management in a context where vulnerable people are a variable in the decision making process.

Lean Consumption to be added into Service Operations yet still absolutely relevant for Manufacturing Operations. With new research upcoming, I believe it will be a game changer for scholarly works in OM, SCM, and Marketing.

I agree with Fernando. And aligned with this topic you could add discussions related to social marketing and piramid base oriented strategies.

I agree with Mr Setijono : when we applied lean consumption in our company { flour mill- feed mill - pasts factory and food packaging factory) It has resulted in very nice results , in terms of  economical added value the company could make better use of resources even we have hired specialized personels for the job.  

I believe you have already heard about APICS. Through this website (http://www.apics.org/) you can find new interesting subjects. Sustainability, I am sure it is a good topic to be explored.

Supply Chain Finance would be good to add: Both in academic world and in practice there is increased interest in the interdependencies of the Financial and the Operational Supply Chain. Businesses see the financial side of the supply chain as promising areas of improvement (e.g. focus on Working Capital optimization, Cash-Conversion-Cycle improvement, impact of payment terms on EOQ, etc, etc,). Supply Chain Finance covers the area of financial agreements between supply chain partners to increase financial performance and reduce supply chain risk.

I might suggest to bring up the theme of advanced analytics applied to manufacturing operations. I found out a very interesting article from McKinsey on how big data can improve manufacturing operations (link: http://www.mckinsey.com/insights/operations/how_big_data_can_improve_manufacturing).

As you all will be figuring while reading it, the bottom line of the article is that advanced analytics allow managers to use historical process data wisely: they can identify patterns and relationships among discrete process steps, diagnose and correct process flaws and optimize the factors that prove to have the greatest effect on yield. 

Lean Consumption has already been mentioned twice and I concur. Lean 'pull' within the factory walls is extremely common but most companies still use forecast push MRP across their end to end supply chain. But with the advent of inexpensive/low risk/functionality rich 'cloud' software companies are now adopting  Lean 'pull' right across their network and into their extended supply chain. The Demand Driven Institute is 'standardising' the approach and have launched  certification programme for both Planners and softwares. From a teaching perspective its also a great subject - the rationale for Demand Driven lies in queuing theory and Factory Physics, it also covers the whole area of Bullwhip/Supply Chain Dynamics and, as  Saleldin mentions, it is incredibly effective versus the ubiquitous forecast push process: achieve planned service levels with inventory reductions of 30% to 50%, lead-time reductions of up to 85% and higher capacity utilisations. Another area might be supply chains as complex adaptive systems which is a relatively recent area of research.

I agree with Ilaria Barletta's opinion. Since big data comes from many sources, from the perspective of customer (public/social aspect) into data that come from any devices / machines (manufacturing). It's become interesting to consider big data analysis into operation decision.

Many Operations courses are still production and number oriented. I don't know about your course sir, but a good way might be to create a different focus rather than add new topics. For example, rather than handling service and manufacturing separately, they could be jointly taught as per the principle involved. Service is per se very similar to  manufacturing system with zero inventory.

I suggest the book "Matching Demand and Supply" by Terweisch and Cachon. The book looks at Operations from a flow perspective and has a very relevant application perspective. 

On addition of new topics, the other suggestions have been wonderful. Try if you can add something on behavioural operations, impact of digitisation, and cloud based models.
