I intend to conduct a study based on Dweck's theory of mindsets (implicit personality theories, or self-theories). I am looking for a survey for measuring a mindset for employees in organizations.
You might use Dweck's (1999) original paper, "Implicit Theories of Intelligence." It contains a 4 item entity beliefs sub-scale (fixed belief) and 4 item incremental beliefs sub-scale (growth mindset). DeCastella & Byrne (2015) reverse-scored the entity belief items for a single score. Hope this helps some, Lina. ~ Kevin
I have found a scale that include 20 items measuring the mindset. It has 5 dimensions which are: challenge, obstacles, effort, critism and success of others.
Could I use it instead? As these dimensions are more convenient for my study.
Interesting handout for teaching about Growth Mindset! I don't think there's an objectively right answer about what scale you should use. If the handout works better for your purposes, then that makes sense. If you're planning to try and publish a paper, you might want to be sure there's a scholarly citation you can cite for the scale's reliability and validity. So maybe try PsychINFO searches and see what you find. Best wishes with your project, Lina! ~ Kevin
I'm not sure if PsychINFO is the generally accepted "card catalog" of Psychology journal articles around the world? Try your university's library website, which probably provides databases for different fields. If it's not clear, you might ask your university research librarian how to access it. Good luck with your research, Lina! ~ Kevin
