is it Fenneropenaeus indicus or Penaeus indicus? this species is one of the listed alien and invasive species in South Africa and i am compiling a profile on it.
The actual name is Fenneropenaeus indicus (Milne Edwards 1837) (family Penaeidae).
The genus Fenneropenaeus was described by Pérez Farfante (1969: 466) as a subgenus of Penaeus, with Penaeus indicus Milne Edwards 1837 as the type species by original designation. The penaeid shrimps were revised and re-organised by Pérez Farfante & Kensley (1997), and Fenneropenaeus was raised to the generic level; it now includes several species. The majority of subsequent authors has been following this classification.

So far no one has come up with a better and convincing argument to change what Pérez Farfante & Kensley (1997) proposed. So Fenneropenaeus indicus remains the valid name for the species.
I have come across a publication by Ma et al. (2009) with molecular data that used three protein coding genes and two mitochondrial genes to conclude that only one genus of Penaeus was accepted, hence do not support the separation of most of the six Penaeus sensu lato genera as described previously by Pérez Farfante & Kensley (1997).
