when i try to study about otomandibular ligaments i got confused about anterior ligament of malleus and malleomandibular ligament. are they same structures named differently or are they different in real sense?
Both are parts of sphenomandibular ligament which is considered as a remnant of meckels cartilage. So both share the same origin. Anterior malleolar ligament was later renamed as malleomandibular ligament.
But do they represent different extensions of the sphenomandibular ligament is quite a doubt.
However the role of these ligaments in TMJ disorders or middle ear problems are yet to be emphasised for their greater concern.
A review on these ligaments would definitely guide in the better understanding of the clinical and surgical perspectives. Best wishes Dr Laxman for the venture.
