In a cyclic batch process I have a gas of volume V Nm3/h at 650deg C (generating for 10 minutes) which needs to be cooled to 200 degC. Instead of adding ambient air directly or using spray water or a forced draft cooler to cool the gas, I am planning to use parallel metal plates in the duct which will absorb the heat and cool the gas.

After the heating cycle is over I will pass ambient air to cool the parallel metal plates to keep it ready for the next cycle.

My question is how can I calculate the area required and the time taken for cooling.

Any help shall be highly appreciated
