To convert Acid into Acid chloride use thionyl chlorde & carry our reaction n fume hood.
Ref.Text book of practical Organic Chemistry by A.I.Vogel. The liquid obtained be distilled under reduced pressure to get acid chloride.
Can u tell me how you had monitored the progress of your reaction?
Absolute Dry condition is necessary rest newly formed Acid chloride will again convert in to the respective starting Acid.

The oxalyl chloride should be freshly distilled. Only a small amount of dry DMF is needed as catalyst and any more is actually detrimental. Since the acid chloride is water reactive, an assay for conversion can be to add an aliquot to dry methanol then measure the ratio of methyl ester that is formed compared to residual acid. There are functional groups that are incompatible with this reaction so protection of those groups may be required.
