Dear Dr. Jeffrey Helm,

I really enjoyed reading your paper - 'On Crack Growth in Thin Aluminum Plates'. I have found it very instructive as well. I have tried using the Lagrangian strain equations shown, but could not get correct results for the total energy stored in the deformed plate. Do these fully account for shear strain energy?

If you could recommend something to get me going (perhaps just a reference for the formulation you used), I would be very grateful. I have found most online derivations confusing and the equations don't end up looking like what you have.

Thank you very much!

Matt
