I want to measure the hydrophobicity of the biochar. I look it up and there are a few recommendation on finding the contact angle. The question is, what is the general procedure to measure the contact angle of biochar? do I compress the char into a pellet and put a drop of water on the biochar pellet and measure the angle of the drop? I also know biochar is loose and hard to make a pellet out of it. Any suggestion is welcome.
To measure the hydrophobicity of the biochar you can opt for any of two methods:
Waterdrop penetration time and molarity ethanol drop method.
use the following procedure to measure the contact angle
1. spread the char on a glass slide evenly and make the surface finished.
2. make the drop of water with your instrument on the surface.
3. draw the base line either manual or automatically which separates the powder surface and drop. then it will automatically shows the value of contact angle on both the sides of drop along with base line.
