In tackling levels of diversity in research, where do we start? We all know that diversity and accessibility is big business at the moment, but where do we start in changing it? The concern is that in beginning with one marginalised group, you're then effectively showing that that group has more value than the others.
How, in your opinion, do we broach this subject?
Diversity initiatives aim to provide members of underrepresented groups (e.g., women) with similar opportunities that the members of majority groups (e.g., men) already received. To illustrate, the same access to jobs or promotion to executive positions. To achieve this goal, business organizations should use job related criteria (e.g., relevant qualifications), while making employment related decisions, and thus reduce the effects of such factors as gender or race during the process of decision making.
