Adoption of cloud computing as a new environment for software development is a good idea due to the great benefits cloud computing can give.
But, the important point that all organizations are worrying about is security and data privacy. So, how strong is the security of the cloud and how can I manage such aspects?

for me, a very important fact with respect to your question is the how riskful the company can be. This again depends on the business processes and the resulting data. Nevertheless, a good model for managing this kind of risk and willingness to take the according risks is a hybrid cloud computing model in which the company uses both, a public cloud and a local (company controlled) cloud installation.

I would phrase it a little bit different. Of course a local Cloud could also be scalable enough, but this scalability is then (again) a responsibility of the company that runs the Cloud.
Beside this, i agree with Pascales definition of a local Cloud.

Surely it is impossible to make generic statements about how secure "the cloud" is. There is no such thing as "the cloud". There are multiple clouds provided by different vendors. Its like asking how secure networks are as if a single answer applies to every LAN on the planet.
There are obviously common security concerns deriving from any system which is designed to be accessible from remote locations. And others deriving from having multiple occupants inside a (at least theoretically) shared space. There are also security concerns when your cloud services are provided by another organisation you can't control, and where you may not be aware of their security arrangements. Whether any particular cloud service is secure or not depends primarily on the security capabilities of the cloud provider. Good provider, good security. Lax provider, poor security.
The general question is really - does the IT field fully understand the security issues in cloud computing? The secondary questions is - are the industry's typical responses sufficient to maintain cloud security or is the general standard of security provision sufficient for most purposes? We could start by asking whether there have been any major breaches in the last year or two. Perhaps we could ask Sony, or Microsoft, or Adobe, or Yahoo?
I have some experiences wit the MIT App Inventor. In the end of December their where a infrastructure problem, storing media data for apps. In some cases I lost parts of my block-diagrams (the source) code. This caused some additional work. However the problem was solved in some days. So one risk is to lose time if the Cloud solution is not working as expected.
