DTR is simply giving you a picture of how the rates of max and min temperatures are changing. This information can then be looked at in terms of crop growth, especially flowering and maturity. Information on DTR variability over India can be gotten from this article.
In our recent study titled 'Spatiotemporal trends in extreme rainfall and temperature indices over Upper Tapi Basin, India' (https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs00704-017-2343-y), we observed that the diurnal temperature range is increasing over the period of 70 years (1944-2013) due to warming tendency in maximum temperature (T max) at a faster rate compared to the minimum temperature (T min). This can affect the soil moisture stress levels in plants and thereby their yield and also aggravate cardiovascular diseases.
