Progressive education completely dominates the educational landscape in American higher education.  However, recent evidence from cognitive science interestingly supports much of what classical education has promoted - a few samples are below connecting classical education strategies with principles of the mind from cognitive science (from Daniel T. Willingham & John Sweller):

Classical Education Strategy   -   Cognitive Principle of the Mind

  - Fun memorization at young ages   -  Memory is the residue of thought

  - Repeat, practice, and revisit           - Practice is required for developing                                                                     expertise

   - Study expert modeled examples    - Providing worked examples reduces   first and then do on your own                cognitive load of students

These are just a few examples.

I am interested in any articles, books, and comments from scholars that might help my exploration of this topic.  Thanks in advance!
