The influence of sewage and waste water on groundwater quality is a major concern worldwide. Several investigations reveal the waste water origin of excess chloride (Cl) in groundwater, particularly the areas where intrusion of saline water is not considered.
Excluding chloride (Cl), what are the other components which may infiltrate from waste water to groundwater? What’s the composition of waste water - Chemical constituents and concentration range?
The most obvious other contaminants from sewage that are of concern to groundwater & dependent water supplies are microbiological, in particular faecal coliforms. To generalise more is tricky without considering the composition of the effluent discharges into the sewerage system. There can be distinct differences in the sewage composition depending on whether domestic or industrial/manufacturing are significant in that part of sewerage network catchment. A programme of effluent discharge sampling & analysis can really be rewarding & improve understanding of hazards & necessary mitigation.

I am mainly interested to know the composition of sewage water (chemical constituents) generated from domestic activities in the rural areas.

Chemical constituents in waste water depend upon type of waste and its source. However , it is simple to collect the samples and analysed the same. Thus get reasonable Answer.
