A typical neutron star with unit gravitational redshift exhibits a charge reduction of a factor of two for its charged particles.
This is because the rest mass of an in-falling particle is halved on arrival by virtue of Birkhoff’s theorem while the rest-mass to charge ratio remains unchanged.

Its applications are multiple and this phenomenon is even the one that even allowed us to determine that the Universe is expanding.
The questioning of what appears to be a break in the principle of conservation of energy is therefore quite legitimate. This is something commonly accepted. It is a conservation relative to the deformation of the geometry of the Space-Time in which the particle "moves".
