Random copolymer of styrene and isoprene, P(St-co-Ip), can be prepared via living anionic polymerization. Nakahara and co-workers found that the copolymer can be treated with a strong Bronsted acid such as CF3SO3H to induce Friedel-Crafts cyclization between the adjacent diene-styrene units into rigid tetrahydronaphthyl bicyclic main-chain structure.

Importantly, in the related papers, the Friedel-Craft alkylation was done under cyclohexane due to its low protogen content.

I really need to do the Friedel-Craft alkylation between adjacent isoprene and styrene in the ambient condition (dioxane:water = 1:1).

Do you know any strategies to do it under solution containing water?

Please help me.
