Nursing theories provide direction and guidance for structuring nursing care. Caring is holistic and highly individualized. Person, environment, health concepts in nursing metaparadigm are intertwined. Interpersonal Relations Theory by H. Peplau is based on psychodynamic nursing using an understanding of one’s own behavior to help others identify their difficulties. The principles of human relations are applied during interaction with client/patient who has felt need. The nurse and the client/patient should have similar definition of the patient's felt need. You mentioned that in Peplau's interpersonal relation theory the nurse-client relationship evolves in four phases: orientation, identification, exploitation, and resolution. When the power shifts from the nurse to the client resolution begins that leads to acceptance and integration of appropriate health care in daily living during the resolution phase.

I have used Peplau's process as a skeleton adding more philosophical aspect on the different steps in the process. I agree with Florencia, that caring is a holistic approach outgoing from the individual. Hence, describing this in terms of precesses may objectify nure-patient relationships. The challenge is according to me not to find proecess-solutions for tho but to open up for the uniqueness of the other. I just read some of June Kikuchi's work in depth and although some may deem her controversial, I feel it would be valid to consider her work when creating a cultural approach to nursing. Her beliefs are based on transcultural nursing and not creating an individual approach for every individual culture. If you read only one I would recommend: Cultural Theories of Nursing Responsive to Human Needs and Values (2005)
